The Alfred W. Wishart, Jr. Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management is named in honor of “Burr” Wishart. Mr. Wishart served The Pittsburgh Foundation as its President for 31 years, and was Chairman of The Forbes Funds at its inception. Presented by The Forbes Funds in cooperation with The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Charities, The Wishart Award is made annually to a local nonprofit human service or community development organization that has demonstrated a sustained commitment to excellence in management and governance. Each year, the award-winning organization is publicly honored for its achievements and receives a $10,000 cash grant to be used for management support purposes.
The award-winning organization must show a commitment to outstanding management in the following areas: demonstrated leadership among the staff and board of directors; use of information and objective analysis in planning and programming; commitment to excellence in human resource management; continuous improvement of service delivery processes; measurement and monitoring of outcomes; commitment to consumer satisfaction; openness to collaborative efforts with other organizations; and accountability to the public trust.
